Careful Consideration of Our Community

OUR VALUES: RESPECT FOR PEOPLE & PLANET

A small, woman-owned and operated business, we seek to better our environment and community in everything we undertake. Closely connected to the Hudson Valley region, davistudio employs local potters and sources custom-made clay from upstate New York. Heirloom-quality collections are designed to last lifetimes, and our operations prioritize energy efficiency, waste reduction, recycling, reclamation and nontoxic materials.

ENERGY REDUCTION

Davis Studio is 100% carbon neutral. We purchase carbon offsets through Native Energy and the New York state electric and gas grid (New Wind Energy program). Our studio and home share the same land, minimizing commuter CO2 contributions and keeping the business local. We fire small batches of made-to-order ceramics in energy-efficient small kilns.

DURABLE & NON-TOXIC MATERIALS

Davistudio Fine Porcelain is made from a mix of organic grolleg, kaolin, and flint.  All our glazes are certified food-safe and lead-free, meeting the labeling standards of proposition 65, the highest standards for ceramic glaze labeling. A durable and non-disposable material, our heirloom-quality porcelain will last many lifetimes. In the event of breakage, it can be disposed of without toxic leakage or breakdown. As an art object, reuse in mosaics is preferred.

CLEAN & SAFE WASTE REDUCTION

Our studio is kept in clean condition. We use HEPA filters on vacuums, and we regularly wet-mop, eliminating the dangers of airborne silica dust. All waste materials, including unused clay and castoffs, are recycled or reclaimed. Any particles resulting from rinsing of brushes and buckets are caught in a special filter that isolates materials for reuse or safe disposal.

EFFICIENT PACKING & SHIPPING

Made-to-order stock reduces unnecessary production, limits inventory and maintains low waste, eliminating production overruns. Our packing materials are all biodegradable or reused. We ship in small batches to specific clients in carefully ordered amounts.
